VdB 113, Sh2-34 a.o. - nebulae in Sagittarius

VdB 113 is a reflection nebula visible in the constellation of Sagittarius. It surrounds and is illuminated by the 6.42 magnitude star HD 165784 (or B-21 4866) The spectral class of the star is A2/A3Iab. Its parallax indicates a distance of about 926 parsec (3 020 light years). Some other nebulae can be spotted on this image (see the annotated mouseover). Among them is Sh2-34. This large diffuse HII region, also called LBN 38, is near the Sgr OB1 association and the Lagoon nebula.
